As executive teams are becoming aware of\nhow data visualisations impact decision making, ERP vendors are using dashboard\ncapability as a key selling point. However, a disappointingly high number of\nERP implementations don\u2019t live up to the sales hype. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every organisation is different, and unless the chosen solution\nis industry specific, it\u2019s unlikely it will meet the management information\nrequirements \u2018out of the box\u2019. While storing data in one place and providing\nenterprise wide visibility are inherent in an ERP solution, presenting this\ninformation to support decision making is a non-trivial exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During implementation, the day to transactional requirements\nneeded to keep the organisation functioning must take priority, so all too\noften, overrun in this aspect means corners being cut with regards to\ninformation delivery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the scale of your implementation cannot justify a\nprofessional project manager, then one approach is to request the vendor\nsegment the project into two statements of work each with its own UAT (User\nacceptance test) phase. One for implementation and one for information\ndelivery. This will ensure any cost\/time overruns on implementation are\ncontained and will not impact on the information delivery aspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This approach has the added benefit that those most impacted by\nthe changes to day to day transaction processing will focus on implementation\nand those with the information requirements will focus on information delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
